Weblog entry:

Bidding farewell to Brace Cove

Spent Friday night and much of Saturday in Gloucester, which is tucked away in northeastern Massachusetts. Rob, a friend and local artist, is moving to Maine with his family, and threw a monstrous farewell party for his friends and Brace Cove, his home of the past decade or so. If you’ve ever been in the basement bar of Redbones (the best place for barbecue in Boston), you’ll know Rob’s work — it’s pasted all over each wall, every inch of the ceiling, and basically any non-table surface. Of course, the owner of Redbones wasn’t going to let Rob escape un-fêted: he showed up with a pig to roast, and a whole host of incredible barbecue sauces. Coupled with the near-torrential rains pouring down over the masses of revellers, my very first pig roast had a very weird Lord of the Flies-esque primitiveness to it. But the people were as excellent as the food and the beer: I’ve posted a few pictures of the Brace Cove bash to prove it.
