Colophon
- How this site was made:
-
I've taken a stab at describing the steps I took to build the site, but I think the merit of the average colophon is inversely proportional to its length. Therefore, in the interest of keeping
you from slitting your wrists out of sheer boredomthings brief, I might've skimped on some detail or other. If you'd like to know more, please do drop me a line.- The process:
-
Amid much cursing and weeping, sidesh0w.com was built ’pon a 15-inch Apple Powerbook with the help of these applications:
And of course, a smattering of iTunes thrown in for good measure.
- Pretty type, pretty pictures:
-
- The type used in the graphics is Dicot.
- The flower graphic used in the header is available at iStockphoto, and is copyrighted by maodesign.
- The man's profile used in the header is a photo I took of a portrait on display at the Peabody Essex Museum.
- The type used in the header graphic is Crybaby, by Dinc.
- The flower graphic used in the header is available at iStockphoto, and is copyrighted by maodesign.
Except as noted above, all site graphics were created by Ethan Marcotte. You decide if that's a good thing.
- Technical stuff that’s likely a good cure for insomnia:

Until recently, this site’s content was managed via a home-rolled PHP-/MySQL powered CMS. Because the damn thing languished in a state of neglect and near-disrepair for so long, sidesh0w.com is now powered by WordPress; or rather, an installation I hacked to bits with ball-peen hammers.

The markup on this site is valid, (hopefully) semantically rich XHTML 1.1, served as
application/xhtml+xmlto browsers capable of parsing the data as such, and astext/htmlto all others.Wow. Typing that sentence bored me. Sorry about that.

The Photos section of the website is powered by a home-rolled (read: “feature-light and unfinished”) PHP-/MySQL-based CMS.
